Covina is dominated by 1950s to 1970s tract housing, and those doors nearly all die in the same sequence, which is worth knowing because you can catch it early. First the torsion spring loses tension: the door gets heavier, the opener works harder, and the door will not stay put when you stop it halfway. Then the extra load transfers to the lift cables, which start to fray where they wind onto the drum. A frayed cable eventually parts, one side of the door drops, and the door jams diagonally in the track. At that point what would have been a straightforward spring replacement has become a spring, a pair of cables, bent track, and often a damaged section.
