Panorama City was built almost all at once in the late 1940s and early 1950s as one of the first big planned communities in the Valley, and that shows up in the doors. Street after street has the same modest single or narrow double garage attached to the front of the house, and a good number are still running an opener and hardware from a much later but still ancient retrofit. What we see most is a light one-piece or early sectional door on tired extension springs, with cables that have started to fray at the drum and rollers worn down to the stems. A lot of these garages have also been closed in as extra living space or a workshop, which means the door has not moved in years and seizes the first time somebody tries it. Alongside that, the apartment blocks along Van Nuys and Roscoe have shared roll-ups that cycle constantly and wear out on use rather than age.
