Pomona's housing runs from 1920s and 1940s bungalows with detached garages off the alley to tract homes built decades later, and it is the older detached garages that generate most of our calls. There is often only a few inches of headroom above the opening, so those doors run on low-headroom track and double-drum hardware that has to be set up exactly right or the door binds and rides rough. Springs are rated in cycles rather than years, and an undersized or mismatched spring fitted during a past retrofit will run out of rated life years early. Once the door drags it is out of balance, and the opener ends up lifting weight it was never rated for until the gears or the motor give up. Cables on these doors fray where they wrap the drum, which is the failure that leaves a door hanging crooked and jammed in the tracks.
Most jobs are repairs: correctly sized torsion springs, cables and drums reset, low-headroom track squared up, rollers and hinges replaced, or an opener gear, sensor pair or remote sorted out. When a door has rotted or rusted past the point of rebuilding, we say so and quote a replacement rather than charging you twice for the same fix.
