Sylmar is two different jobs depending on which side of Foothill you are on. The older flat streets have modest post-war homes with narrow attached garages, frequently still on extension springs with no containment cables, and openers that predate photo-eye sensors entirely. The hillside tracts built from the 1980s onward are the opposite: large houses with three-car garages, a wide double plus a single, and a driveway that climbs. Slope is the detail that catches people out here. On a rising driveway a door that has lost spring tension still looks like it is working, right up until it slams or refuses to hold halfway. Sylmar lots are also generous enough that many have RV or boat parking behind a gate and a taller door on a detached shop, and those need the spring sized for the actual panel rather than a stock fit.
